Maricopa County Jails will be getting more business from the city of Scottsdale.
One of two city jails will be shutting down later this month because of the budget, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.
“It’ll be just sitting vacant at this point,” said Scottsdale Police Officer David Pubins. “If at some time in the future, if the budget climate does change, we’ll be able to reopen that.”
The budget has called for the elimination of five civilian positions, which directly affects the entire staff at the Via Linda jail.
“At this point, our budget will be $300,000 dollars less this fiscal year,” said Pubins.
