Drug Enforcement Agency agents, along with local police, executed 17 search warrants across the Valley on Thursday looking for synthetic drugs.
DEA Special Agent Ramona Sanchez said it was part of a first-ever nationwide crackdown on these types of drugs.
“There were several distribution sites that were used as a production facility that was being operated by at least five people that were producing these synthetic drugs,” she said.
Nationwide, over 100 people were arrested and more than five million packets of synthetic drugs were seized.
“So far, we have seven people that were arrested and further arrests are anticipated,” said Sanchez. “We seized over 4,000 pounds of bath salts. We also seized 13 firearms, 12 vehicles and numerous bank accounts.”
Sanchez said the operation is still on-going.
