Valley theaters make changes after Colorado shooting

Local theater chains are taking a closer look at how they operate and secure their facilities in the wake of the Colorado shootings.

In a statement, Arizona-based Harkins Theatres said:

The entire [Harkins Theatres] organization is grieving with the community of Aurora, Colorado, today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and the victims of of this horrific random act.

Harkins said it will adjust security procedures as necessary.

AMC Theaters, that has eight locations in the Valley and one in Tucson, posted to its Facebook page that it initiated an immediate ban on people in costume, masks or those wanting to carry in fake weapons.

AMC said it would offer refunds to moviegoers who chose to stay home.
