Fire restrictions to be lifted in Coconino Forest

Fire restrictions in the Coconino National Forest, including the Fossil Creek area closure, will be lifted at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the U.S. Forest Service said.
The recent influx of precipitation across Arizona permitted the restrictions to be lifted.
“Although campfires will be allowed throughout the forest, people should never leave a campfire unattended,” said Coconino Fire Staff Officer Russ Copp in a press release. “Campers should make sure they bring about five to six gallons of water to extinguish their campfire completely before leaving, making sure to stir it with a shovel as you are pouring the water. The fire pit should be cold to the touch before leaving the campsite.”
Closures and restrictions vary by forest and campers and hikers are asked to double check the current conditions before making plans.
