PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo remained closed Thursday as workers kept chipping away at the mess left behind by this week’s storm.
Zoo officials said the facility would reopen to the general public Friday at 9 a.m.
There was a lot to do in order to reopen. While the animals were all safe during Monday night’s monsoon, the plants and trees weren’t so lucky.
We will be closed through Thurs Sept 3 as we continue to clean up after the storm. Info: http://t.co/Um0ySOhTsY pic.twitter.com/mnjEBHWYq0

A zoo spokeswoman said Wednesday that branches were still falling off trees and that heavy equipment was in place to remove debris and clean up exhibits.
The zoo said it had received donations, offers to help with the cleanup and “messages of kind words.”
Lightning, rain and wind damaged buildings and caused numerous power outages in parts of the Valley.
