Care home faulted for leaving man in heat

TUCSON, Ariz. — A state investigation has found that a 67-year-old man who
was left outside a Tucson long-term care home in triple-digit heat for more than
an hour last month died with a core temperature of 107 degrees.

The Arizona Daily Star reported that the Arizona
Department of Health Services’ investigation faults Sabino Canyon Rehabilitation
and Care Center for inadequate supervision of Joseph Oliver.

A Tucson Police Department report said it was unclear whether Oliver was
sitting in a shaded area or in the sun when he was outside.

Sabino Canyon Rehabilitation and Care Center administrator Christie Jones said
her facility plans to file a response to the state report but declined to answer
questions about the incident, citing patient privacy.
