PHOENIX — Labor Day weekend is a time for fun, food and, of course, family.
Families staying in the Valley for the holiday might be thinking: What do we do with the kids? Don’t worry — we have you covered.
Although the summer is about to officially come to an end, that doesn’t mean the fun in the sun is over yet! Grab your kids, get out of the house and enjoy your holiday weekend with these events that are fun for the whole family:
Cumbia Dance Night at Phoenix Art Museum
What better way to kick off the holiday weekend with a good, ol’ fiesta! Cumbia Dance Night on Sept. 4 is actually a massive celebration to unveil the Museum’s newest art gallery, Masterworks of Spanish Colonial Art, and will feature live music and dance performances throughout the night. Since the opening falls on Phoenix’s First Friday, admission is completely free and the party will last until 10 p.m.
Harold’s Corral Hawaiian Luau
Beat the heat with a sweet Hawaiian treat. This luau will feature activities such as a pig roast buffet, Hawaiian luau dancers, face painting and more! The event will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6 at Harold’s Cave Creek Corral, but it is highly encouraged to buy tickets beforehand as it completely sold out last year.
Coconino County Fair
For those families who are trying to get away without really getting away, the Coconino County Fair might just be the perfect place to let your kids run wild. Located at the Fort Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff, the fair features livestock shows, carnival rides and games and, of course, all the fair food you can eat! No need to rush out of there either; The fair will be open and ready to rock from Sept. 4 to 7, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.
Faire on the Square
Another destination that makes you feel right at home: Prescott. The artsy town will be hosting its 30th Annual Faire on the Square, an arts and crafts show with nearly 200 vendors selling fine art, jewelry, food and much more. The best part? It’s open from Sept. 5 to 7, allowing for a weekend full of fun.
Alpine Area Artisans Festival
While you’re already up north for the Coconino County Fair and the Faire on the Square, you might as well hit the Alpine Area Artisans Festival, too. The two-day festival, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5, offers guests and residents local goods, such as pottery, jewelry and even antler art. The best part? It’s completely free.
Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know
“Luke, I am your father,” is just one of the many dad jokes you can make to your kids at the reading and book-signing of Star Wars: Everything You Need to Know at the Changing Hands Bookstore in Phoenix. The reading will be held on Sept. 5 at 4 p.m., and admission is free with the purchase of the book. Plus, you’re going to need it if you want to prepare for the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in just three months.
