ATF offering $10K reward for Tolleson church arson information

Jul 6, 2012, 2:23 PM | Updated: 2:53 pm

A government agency is offering a $10,000 reward for information on a Tolleson church that was burned by an arsonist.

“Right now the only people that know where and how the fire was started are the ATF investigators and the people who started the fire,” said Tolleson Police Chief Larry Rodriguez. “There was unauthorized entry and vandalism.”

The fire was investigated by a team from the Bureau of Alchol, Firearms and Tobacco that investigated the 9/11 attacks and the Oklahoma City bombings.

Lopez said arson, in any degree, is tragic, whether it’s to a home or a church.

“This displaced a tremendous amount of people,” he said. “It hurt them spiritually with the loss of the church. It’s very, very tragic.”

The Mormon church near 94th Avenue and Van Buren Street, which served more than 1,000 members, burned down on June 29.

The fire caused approximately $2 million in damage.

No one was injured in the fire.
