ASU fighting against sexual violence on campus

PHOENIX — It has been more than one year since the federal government announced it was investigating Arizona State University along with dozens of other colleges over the way they were handling complaints of sexual assault on campus.
Since then, ASU has launched a mandatory training on sexual assault awareness, which approximately 35,000 students have completed. There is also a peer support group now for sexual violence victims. The university’s police department has created a special victims unit to investigate sex crimes:
“They do have ASU police on campus all the time at night driving around to make you feel safe,” ASU undergraduate student Ashley Tutwiler said.
While the university is taking steps in the right direction according to Tutwiler, student organizations are also working to fight against sexual assault on campus.
“Some Greek organizations on campus are just stepping up for sexual violence awareness and putting a voice out there for it and saying that we are the ones that are responsible for it, we are the ones that should make sure this isn’t happening,” she said.
