Faith in Humanity: Construction workers cheer up patient

It wasn’t in the blueprints, but two construction workers ended up making a little girl with leukemia feel better, at least for a bit.
At St. Louis Children’s and Barnes-Jewish hospitals in Missouri, large renovations are taking place. 2-year-old patient Vivian Keith loves waving through the window at the workers on the job, passing the time during treatments.
After being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia during the winter of 2014, Keith has had to spend much of her time in isolation. ALL is a cancer that affects the white blood cells that fight infection and protect the body against disease.
Her waving caught the attention of ironworkers Greg Combs and Travis Barnes who decided to try to cheer up Keith. They created a “get well soon” message and wrote it on to a construction beam, bringing smiles from the little girl.
Keith is now out of isolation and was able to meet Combs and Barnes. They exchanged hugs and gifts.
The workers say they were inspired by Keith and thought about their own children and how precious life is.
