GILBERT, Ariz. – Gilbert High School’s Tiger Pride
Marching Band is set for the opportunity of a lifetime and
is hoping to give back to their community while they do
it.
The band is flying out to Washington D.C. Tuesday to march
in the Independence Day Parade.
Aside from marching in the parade, the band will also pay
a visit to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall to place
photographs and other mementos at the wall for members of
the community.
“We’re taking anything people would want us to take to the
wall to honor someone who has given their life,” said
Holly Thorn, a booster for the marching band.
Band members also plan on making pencil rubbings of the
names on the wall for anyone who requests one. The band
has had several fundraisers the past several months trying
to save up the funds needed for the trip. They estimate
that it will cost them $1,600 per student to make the
journey. According to Thorn, it’s a way the students are
trying to give back.
“We couldn’t do this without the help of the community,”
she said. “It’s important for them to feel like they are
giving something back to those who can’t go.”
The band is still taking requests from anyone who wants a
pencil rubbing. Anyone who would like one can contact
Thorn at (480) 577-5486 or email her at thronh@q.com.
