The mountain air is drawing plenty of fresh faces to Flagstaff — classes have begun at Northern Arizona University with a record number of students and the most freshmen in school history.
“I’m delighted to see that NAU continues to be a university of choice for so many new and returning students,” university President Rita Cheng said in a news release.
Enrollment has reached 29,035, another all-time high mark for the school; the freshman class makes up 5,141 of the student body. That topped last year’s mark by 376 enrollees.
Online students jumped to 5,183.
University spokeswoman Cindy Brown said the school typically sees the numbers go up between the first day of classes and the official count.
