The Poco Fire near Young, Ariz. is now 85 percent contained and control of the fire will be turned over to the Tonto National Forest.
On Thursday, the fire was 80 percent contained and crews spent the day removing fallen trees and limbs around the perimeter to prevent spreading.
“We want to thank our firefighters and the communities we’re working to protect,” said Andy Mandell, the incident commander trainee in a press release. “We encourage the public to practice fire safety because the trees and shrubs are very dry and we remain in extreme fire danger.”
Some resources, including two Type 1 firefighting crews and two engines, will remain in the area.
The Poco Fire has burned 11,950 acres.
