TEMPE, Ariz. — A former Tempe firefighter facing criminal charges of pushing and kicking a fire official is asking for his job back.
The Arizona Republic reported Michael Keene, 25,
apologized in a letter for the Aug. 11, 2011 incident that occurred as a blaze
was burning his home.
Police and fire reports said Keene became enraged when he was prohibited from
going back into his house to search for his wife’s wedding gown. Authorities said
Keene then assaulted Marc Scott, 58, causing the
then-assistant fire chief to double over in pain.
Authorities also said the blaze appeared suspicious, ruling out electrical
or natural causes.
Keene was fired in May for violating department policies.
A Tempe city spokeswoman said criminal charges do not necessarily prevent him
from being rehired.
