PHOENIX — A Mesa man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for beating
his young daughter with a folded power cord.
Maricopa County prosecutors said George Kuykendall, 33, also was
sentenced Wednesday to lifetime probation.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors said Kuykendall pleaded guilty to two
counts of child abuse.
Kuykendall was arrested in June 2010 after his girlfriend took the
then 4-year-old girl to the residence of a family member. Someone noticed the
girl’s injuries and called authorities.
Mesa police said Kuykendall was arrested on an outstanding warrant on an
unrelated matter. They said he told officers that he had beaten his daughter, who
was treated at a hospital for her injuries.
