Surprise lures diesel-engine builder from Phoenix

SURPRISE, Ariz. — A diesel-engine manufacturer is expected to create at
least 120 jobs with a planned assembly plant in Surprise.
The Arizona Republic reported officials in the west
Phoenix suburb unveiled plans Tuesday for Southwest Products Corps. to relocate
there.
Surprise officials said the company, based in south Phoenix, was drawn to $220,000 in city-issued
incentives. They include permit-fee waivers and development-fee reimbursements.
The company is the most recent of several mid-size employers to settle in
Surprise.
Southwest Products will initially hire 90 people with plans to add 30-70 more positions.
The 165,000-square-foot plant is expected to open in fall 2013. The facility
will serve as the company’s headquarters and main distribution and manufacturing
hub.
