Ex-Fiesta Bowl CEO gets job with charity

PHOENIX — Former Fiesta Bowl CEO John Junker, who is awaiting sentencing
for his role in a scandal involving the top college bowl game, has found a job
at a charity.
The fired executive is working full-time at St. Vincent de Paul’s, managing its
thrift stores and other facilities.
A spokeswoman for the nonprofit said Junker has volunteered with them for 14
years and has valuable business experience.
Junker was axed in March 2011 for leading a conspiracy where bowl employees
were reimbursed for political-campaign donations. Prosecutors said Junker also
spent bowl money on strippers, golf club memberships and other personal
expenses.
Junker pleaded guilty to state and federal conspiracy charges.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in July in separate cases in U.S. District
Court and Maricopa County Superior Court.
