TUCSON, Ariz. – A Tucson man who shot his girlfriend and left her
partially paralyzed has been sentenced to three years’ probation.
Pima County prosecutors say 52-year-old Timothy Lamar Wills was sentenced
Tuesday. He was convicted last month of misdemeanor assault and aggravated
assault causing serious physical injury.
Wills was facing probation on the misdemeanor charge and up to 8.75 years of
incarceration on the aggravated assault charge.
The Arizona Daily Star says Wills’ girlfriend was his
next-door neighbor.
Wills called 911 to say he’d accidentally shot his girlfriend when he picked up
his rifle to investigate a possible prowler on April 8, 2010.
However, court documents show the woman claimed Wills tried to kill her during
an argument.
Authorities say the bullet entered behind the woman’s left armpit, fracturing
her spine.
