PHOENIX – Three Phoenix men have sentenced to federal prison in connection
with a methamphetamine case.
Prosecutors say 29-year-old Luis Edel Ayala-Cruz was given a 70-month prison
term, 39-year-old Herman Eloy Llanes-Montoya a 57-month sentence and 42-year-old
Eduardo Lopez-Camacho a two-year term.
All three men must serve two years of supervised release after prison.
Lopez-Camacho pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Ayala-Cruz and Llanes-Montoya both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with
intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Lopez-Camacho was stopped for a traffic violation near Salt Lake City by Utah
law enforcement officers on Feb. 11, 2011.
Officers found more than $31,000 hidden in a compartment of Lopez-Camacho’s
vehicle. The money was drug proceeds that Lopez-Camacho was being paid to
transport and that led authorities to Ayala-Cruz and Llanes-Montoya.
