Recent dust storm doesn’t make cut as monsoon

PHOENIX — The National Weather Service said Saturday night’s dust storm was not a classic monsoon but a tease of what’s to come.
“It wasn’t a big rollicking storm situation for us, just a preliminary view of the monsoon season,” said Austin Jamison of the National Weather Service.
Tucson did get pounded with thunder and lightning storms Saturday, which in turn caused the strong winds that kicked up dust and rolled into the Valley.
Jamison said conditions will be in place to bring storms into central Arizona this weekend.
“At this point it’s hard to say how strong the storms will be. We’re seeing moisture moving into the area, which would be sufficient to get storms going.”
