YOUNG, Ariz. – A firefighter has been taken by medical helicopter to a
hospital after getting injured while battling a wildfire outside a small central
Arizona town.
Tonto National Forest officials say there’s no immediate word on how the
firefighter was injured Friday afternoon.
The firefighter’s name and condition also aren’t immediately available.
Officials say crews have no containment around the Poco Fire, which was first
reported Thursday afternoon and scorched approximately 1,000 acres overnight.
No structures are threatened by the blaze, which is burning about 6 miles north
of the town of Young in steep and rugged terrain.
The fire’s cause still is under investigation.
