PHOENIX — Officials at the Phoenix VA were forced to relocate several patients from a hospital unit after discovering unacceptable levels of the bacteria legionella in the water system.
Twenty patients in Building 31 were relocated to other hospital units Friday after tests came back positive for high levels of legionella bacteria in the water system.
No patients have displayed signs of legionella pneumonia and no other areas of the VA are affected.
Officials said patient care will not resume in the building until remediation efforts are complete.
