PHOENIX — A Phoenix school superintendent has given his $10,000 bonus to
students hoping to go to college.
The Arizona Republic reported Superintendent Jim Lee
announced his decision at a Paradise Valley School District board meeting
Thursday after board members approved the bonus pay.
Lee said the money will go to a school program that targets students who show
academic potential but are struggling in college-prep classes.
The board said Lee earned the performance incentive for meeting several of the
district’s goals including developing solutions for balancing the budget.
Lee was hired in 2009 with a starting yearly salary of about $160,000.
