Nearly $5 million will be used by several community organizations to provide better health care for Arizonans.
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded Banner Health, Arizona State University College of Nursing and Chicanos Por La Causa, among others, the grant to recruit and support nearly 700 workers who can earn advanced degrees in the health-care field.
“We’re trying to put a program together that allows nurses the opportunity to work towards getting a Bachelor’s of Science degree — so advanced training as a nurse,” said Banner Health President/CEO Peter Fine. “And for nurse assistants to get professional certification. The hope is to create job stability.”
The grant will also give orientation and retention for new graduates of nursing programs and expand the health-care field to those who were not included in previous recruiting efforts.
