A 2-year-old girl is fighting for her life in a Valley hospital after she was pulled from a pool near Stapely and McKellips in Mesa.
Mesa Fire Captain Forrest Smith said the girl was unattended in her home pool, which also wasn’t fenced.
“She had made her way out into the backyard and into the pool,” he said. “The pool was described as us to being somewhat green, murky. We don’t know how long she had been seen last, nor do we know how long she was in the water, but she was in really a grave situation by the time we had gotten there.”
According to the Arizona Insurance Council, there’s been 14 pool-related drowning incidents in Arizona so far this year. 27 children died in 2011 from drowning.
