PHOENIX — Arizona legislator Ed Abeleser announced he will be leaving his seat to take a job with the Nevada Department of Education.
The Democratic senator from Tempe posted the news on Facebook early Friday morning. Abeleser will become director of the Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment, a new position in the department.
According to Nevada education officials, the office will create programs and
training to prevent and identify incidents of bullying and cyberbullying in
schools.
In the post, Abeleser noted that he was thrilled with “the chance to make a positive difference in the lives of so many children who suffer from the insidious effects of bullying and cyber-bullying.”
Abeleser, who runs a mental health counseling practice, will serve in the Legislature until Sept. 30.
He starts his new job Oct. 1.
