Maricopa County Sheriffs raid auto shop

Jun 14, 2012, 4:48 PM | Updated: 4:48 pm

PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriffs have served a search warrant in an employer-sanctions raid at a Phoenix auto parts shop.

Deputies have taken four suspects into custody for fraudulently using fake social security numbers. One of the social security numbers belonged to a diseased person.

Two other people were arrested. All six of those arrested are suspected of being illegal aliens.

The shop, Auto Fit, is located at 18th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

The store owner attacked a cameraman from Telemundo who was on the scene and broke the media member’s television camera. He was arrested.

“The media has a tough job to do and no one should physically attack them for doing
their job,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a press release.

Some wondered if Arpaio would tone down the raids as the SB 1070 ruling approaches. With Thursday’s 61st raid, that does not seem to be the case.

“Whatever the SB 1070 ruling turns out to be, I expect it will not alter the way this
office enforces the illegal immigration laws,” Arpaio said.

Arpaio has caught 633 illegal immigrants in his raids, according to a press release.

Phoenix-based Auto Fit sells automobile parts from three facilities in Phoenix,
Houston and Dallas. Officials from the Phoenix office declined comment Thursday
on the arrests.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
