PHOENIX — A former Arizona lawmaker who was forced to resign from office
two years ago over campaign finance violations is being investigated in his bid
for a state Senate seat.
The Arizona Republic reported the state Attorney
General’s Office is looking into whether Doug Quelland, an independent, violated
state law by circulating campaign materials without disclaimers of who paid for
them.
State Elections Director Amy Chan said Quelland told her stickers that had the
disclosure information must have fallen off. Chan said when she received
campaign letters with the appropriate stickers from Quelland, she found it
impossible to remove them without tearing the letters.
The three residents who first complained about Quelland’s materials include
outgoing Republican Sen. Linda Gray of Glendale, who is supporting another
candidate for the seat.
