PHOENIX — A monsoon storm brought rain to the Phoenix area on Thursday and winds that knocked down power lines and trees and blew dust all over.
The wet weather hit the city from the northwest, where it dumped rain on drivers in the suburbs of Surprise and Sun City. Weather maps showed a strong cell moving over the area and heading toward downtown Phoenix.
Many residents reported power outages — at one point 10,5000 Arizona Public Service customers were without power. By early Friday that number was down to 300.
Salt River Project said about 1,000 customers lost power.
At least 32 utility poles were wrecked, mostly around Loop 303 and Indian School Road and blowing dust was reported around the city.
