PEORIA, Ariz. — A former Phoenix assistant fire chief has been hired as the new fire chief in Peoria.
Peoria officials announced Wednesday that Bobby Ruiz was selected over three other finalists.
Ruiz replaces Thomas Solberg, who resigned in November after settling a pension
dispute.
Ruiz is a 37-year veteran of the Phoenix Fire department who retired in
December. He was an assistant chief from 2007 to 2011.
The Peoria City Council is expected to confirm Ruiz’s appointment at a June 19
meeting.
He’s set to start his new job in early July.
