A 3-year-old boy nearly drowned in a Gold Canyon pool on Monday, police said.
“When the child was found, the family dog was nearby and the family dog was wet, so we’re not sure if the dog went in after the child or the child went in after the dog,” said Apache Junction Deputy Fire Chief Dave Montgomery. “We’re not sure exactly.”
When police arrived on the scene, the father was performing CPR. The responding deputy immediately took over. The Apache Junction Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter.
The boy was blue when pulled from the water, police said.
According to the boy’s father, the boy was left outside for about two minutes while he attended to something inside the house.
The boy was first transported to Arizona Regional Hospital, where he registered a faint pulse. He was then transferred to Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa.
The boy is in extremely critical condition.
The pool was fenced, but the entrance to the fence was left open.
