GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. — A popular Grand Canyon trail that
was closed because of a water pipeline break can handle hikers again.
Grand Canyon National Park said Saturday that the section of the North Kaibab
Trail between Roaring Springs and Cottonwood Campground is reopening.
The trail was closed Thursday when the ruptured pipeline washed out a 45-
foot section of the trail.
The break was the third one in recent days to affect the trans-canyon trail.
The park service reported a week ago that the pipeline broke in two separate
places near the rustic resort Phantom Ranch, near that Colorado River at the
bottom of the canyon.
The trans-canyon pipeline originally was installed in the mid-1960s.
