Accident on I-10 west causes delay

A car accident on westbound Interstate 10 at the I-17 split Friday morning closed a portion of the freeway. There were no serious injuries.
The accident forced closure of the freeway between 48th Street/State Route 143 and the I-17 split. Two westbound lanes are open after a brief closure of I-10. Traffic is backed up to 48th Street.
A PT Cruiser clipped a semi-truck, which caused the car to catch fire. The car’s driver suffered minor injuries, the truck driver was unharmed.
The Arizona Department of Transportation reported that traffic has been diverted to northbound I-17. Delays of an hour are expected.
