Hospitalized 4-year-old’s mother, boyfriend face abuse charges

PHOENIX — A four-year-old Valley girl is in a hospital in critical condition Thursday and her mother is in jail facing abuse charges.
The mother, Ashley Buckman, 22, is accused of hitting the child in the face at an apartment near Northern and 19th avenues. Her live-in boyfriend, James Edwards, also faces child-abuse charges.
Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said there were signs of previous abuse to the little girl. Charges against the couple could escalate if the child’s condition worsens.
