Overnight drivers on Interstate 17 should be prepared for an 18-mile detour while a pedestrian bridge is being constructed in early June, the Arizona Department of Transportation said in a press release.
The new footbridge will be constructed just north of Jomax Road and will close the freeway overnight Friday.
Drivers who are going north on I-17 will be asked to exit at Happy Valley Road and head west to Lake Pleasant Parkway, then head north to the Loop 303 and then east to reconnect to I-17.

The construction was scheduled to miss the Memorial Day holiday traffic.
