University of Alabama sorority recruitment video causes stir online

For some, college life includes being part of a fraternity or sorority.
Both sides of Greek life go all-out to get new recruits with online productions. The annual videos are rarely given a second glance, save for those who are considering joining (aka “rushing”) a sorority or fraternity. At cursory glance, the videos appear to be a repeat of the same shots, year-in and year-out.
But one person’s criticism of a University of Alabama sorority’s recruitment video has caught fire online. AL.com writer A.L. Bailey called the video “worse for women than Donald Trump,” alluding to sexist comments made by the Republican presidential candidate directed at Fox News host Megyn Kelly. Bailey said the video lacks diversity and objectifies women.
As Bailey’s words made their rounds, the sorority pulled the video offline. Before the organization was able to, the video was well on its way to hitting one million views. (You can watch a clone of the video above.)
We jumped on the Google machine and found, for comparison, the 2015 recruitment video from the sorority’s University of Arizona and Arizona State University chapters. Do you think the videos differ? Let us know in the comments.
