Young girl with rare bone disorder leads fundraising charge for Texas hospital

Aug 17, 2015, 7:43 PM

Eight-year-old Addy Bryan is one determined little girl.

Afflicted with a rare bone disorder in both of her legs that caused her knees to be backwards at birth, Addy spent years undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.  Though the road to getting back on her feet and leading a normal, healthy life hasn’t been easy, Addy has overcome numerous odds, fostering a fiercely benevolent spirit along the way.

Leading up to her eighth birthday, Addy set an ambitious goal of raising $8,000 to help kids at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital — $1,000 for every year that she’s been alive.

It would turn out that young Addy would far exceed that original objective.

After word of her story went viral, money for Addy’s cause came flooding in to the tune of $19,000.  Shortly after that, an anonymous donor pledged an additional $50,000, bringing the grand total of money raised to just over $69,000.

If that wasn’t enough, Addy has set a goal to surpass the amount of money she raised this year for her ninth birthday.

If her first fundraising foray is any indication, it would be ill-advised to bet against Abby and her ambition.
