Eat the rich!

The president is in full campaign mode and is attempting to convince you that the evil rich in America are the reason you don’t have whatever it is you think you should have.
The Buffett Rule is campaign-speak for a piece of pending legislation that has an ice cube’s chance in Hell of passing the Senate. The bill does nothing to reform our Byzantine tax code, close loopholes or remove all the tax breaks given to special interests — all voted for gleefully by members of both parties.
Instead, it disingenuously attempts to make the connection that achieving success in your life means you are creating a disadvantage for someone else, as if success was a zero sum game.
As a practical matter, the “Buffett Rule” would generate at most $5 billion a year, or about 0.1 percent of government spending. And those are the president’s own numbers!
So, instead of running to solve our skyrocketing deficit, begin the conversation about the government we want versus the government we can afford and leveling with the American people about the unsustainability of the path we are on.
President Obama is going to convince some people that we can solve our nation’s problem by eating the rich! You want to know the worst part of this? It will probably work.
