PHOENIX — A woman from Arizona was killed in a motorcycle accident related to the annual Sturgis, South Dakota, biker festival.
Destiny Smith, 31, of Glendale, was riding with Michael Weismann, also of Glendale, when Weismann lost control of the bike. Smith was flung into traffic on U.S. 385, where she was struck by another motorcycle.
Weismann, who was injured, also came off the bike.
The number of traffic fatalities tied to this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally — the 75th anniversary — has reached nine.
In 1990, a record 11 were injured at rally events, according to the Rapid City Journal.
