In this photo by Rafiq Maqbool, a farmer prepares rice saplings for replanting as rain falls in a paddy field on the outskirts of Mumbai, India. Monsoon rains that fall from June through September are crucial to agriculture in India because nearly 60 percent of its farmland is rain-fed. The heavy rains recorded Tuesday disrupted life in the city, leaving people wading in shin-deep water and causing traffic havoc. Some train services were canceled because of submerged tracks or washed-out earth, but Press Trust of India reported services had resumed in the afternoon.
