White House hopeful Martin O’Malley unveils immigration plan

NEW YORK (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley says if elected president, he would aggressively use executive action to limit deportations and overhaul what he describes as a broken immigration system.
The former Maryland governor unveiled his immigration platform at a New York City event, where immigrants in the country illegally shared their stories.
O’Malley spoke as the crowded Republican field continues to grapple with presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s offensive comments about immigrants.
O’Malley criticized the reality TV star and businessman and promised to limit detentions and press Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform that would include a pathway to citizenship for millions living in the country illegally.
The relatively little-known Democratic is working to gain traction in a race dominated by former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
