In this photo by Niranjan Shrestha, Nepalese laborers work on repairing the earthquake-damaged Swayambhunath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. The hilltop stupa dates to the 5th century, and its golden spire atop the white dome is visible around the Kathmandu Valley. The director of U.N. humanitarian operations urged Nepal to fast-track clearance and waive taxes on aid shipments, so the desperately needed assistance can get to 500,000 people who urgently need food and 100,000 households that still require shelter following two devastating earthquakes.
