Suspect in Quincy boy’s slaying pleads not guilty

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — An Arizona man accused of shooting a 12-year-old boy in the head in western Illinois has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
Twenty-year-old Steson L. Crider of Chandler, Arizona, entered the plea during his arraignment Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports (http://bit.ly/1CregZ3 ) that a tentative trial date was set for Sept. 14.
Crider is accused of shooting Ray Humphrey Jr. outside a home in Quincy in March. The seventh-grader died from a single gunshot to the head.
Crider is being held on $5 million bond.
If found guilty, he faces up to 85 years in prison.
Crider’s father, stepmother and half-brother have pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice.
