Study: At least 30 percent of Arizonans own a gun

PHOENIX — In the wake of the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, the nation has been up in arms about gun violence and ownership.
A study, conducted by Bindu Kalesan — a gunviolence researcher at Columbia University — and published in the journal Injury Prevention, found Arizona has a gun ownership rate of 30-35 percent.
Kalesan surveyed 4,000 U.S. adults in 2013 to find the rates of ownership and also profiled the average gun owner.
He found that almost one in three Americans own at least one gun. Owners tend to be white men over the age of 55 who have a high income.
Alaska has the highest rate of gun ownership at 61.7 percent while Delaware has the lowest at 5.2 percent.
