Ex-Phoenix policeman pleads not guilty to sexual assault

PHOENIX (AP) — A former Phoenix police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she was in custody has pleaded not guilty.

Timothy Morris was arraigned in the case Thursday.

He’s facing two counts of sexual assault, one count of falsely reporting to law enforcement, and kidnapping.

Police say the 40-year-old Morris picked up the woman from Scottsdale police in the early morning hours of June 26 and was supposed to transfer her to a Maricopa County facility.

The woman had been arrested on a misdemeanor warrant for a Phoenix offense.

Investigators say Morris allegedly engaged in sexual contact with the woman while she was still in handcuffs.

Police say Morris resigned after his arrest.

They say he had worked for the department since 2008 and had no prior complaints against him.
