PHOENIX — An Arizona nonprofit planned to hold a vigil outside the home of Gov. Doug Ducey ahead of a U.S. Court of Appeals hearing related to immigrant deportations.
Advocacy organization Promise Arizona’s director Petra Falcon said the Thursday evening prayer action was set for 8 p.m. The next day, when the Fifth Circuit Court in New Orleans convenes, the group would deliver a letter to Ducey and state Attorney General Mark Brnovich.
Arizona is one of the 26 states that have challenged implementing President Barack Obama’s immigration policy, extending protection of scores of undocumented people from deportation.
A federal judge in Texas placed a temporary hold on the policy in April.
