Beetles flood Phoenix-area community after rainy May, June

PHOENIX — A wetter-than-normal May and June has led to a surge in black beetles in a community north of Phoenix.
Rick Fairbairn with Bugsy Pest Control said he’s having to turn down customers in Anthem because he’s so busy.
“I had to literally start saying no because I’m scheduled pretty tight, but everybody wants to get it done,” he said, adding that people approach him at every stop and ask him to spray.
Fairbairn said the beetles will likely hang around for a few more weeks. Until then, people should keep their windows shuttered at night, as the bugs are attracted to light.
