KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan woman says she’s no longer facing a misdemeanor after being arrested for failing to renew a license for her dog.

Becky Rehr says she drove to the Kalamazoo County sheriff’s office on June 23 to prove she’d renewed the license for the family’s 11-year-old dog, Dexter.

She was then arrested, fingerprinted and held for three hours as her 14-year-old daughter waited in the car.

Rehr told the Kalamazoo Gazette (http://bit.ly/1S5mvM6 ) the charge was dismissed at prosecutors’ request Monday.

County animal control officials say Rehr, of Cooper Township, was given numerous mail, phone and in-person warnings after Dexter’s license expired March 1. The last phone call warned that a warrant would be requested unless she got a $10 license by May 28.

Michigan law requires that dogs be licensed.
