Mexico president leaves hospital after gallbladder surgery

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto left the hospital on Sunday after undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder.
Pena Nieto was released from the Central Military Hospital at midday, telling the press he is feeling “very good” and thanking doctors and nurses for their professional care. He said he is maintaining his normal schedule, including receiving a visit by Spanish King Felipe VI on Monday.
The 48-year-old president had the operation on Friday after experiencing “intense discomfort.” Doctors said it was the only option. They said he was fully healthy and in charge after the surgery.
Pena Nieto said he has been advised to lower his fat intake going forward and to limit exercise over the next few weeks.
The sudden illness forced Pena Nieto to cancel plans to travel to Guatemala on Friday for a regional summit of national leaders.
It was his second surgery since taking office in late 2012. In July 2013, he underwent surgery to remove a thyroid nodule, which showed no signs of malignancy.
