SPRINGDALE, Ohio (AP) — A stabbing at an apartment complex in southwest Ohio left one person dead and four people, including children, injured, authorities said Thursday.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene in the early morning hours, and there was some conflicting information initially. Springdale police Lt. Rick Neumann later told reporters that four young people, including teens and younger children, were transported to the hospital for treatment. A man was fatally stabbed, police said.
Authorities initially said they were looking for two male suspects, but police later indicated it wasn’t clear how many were involved in the stabbings.
The Hamilton County Communications Center said the five victims were found in Springdale, about 20 miles north of Cincinnati near Interstate 275. Police said they responded to a call at about 12:30 a.m. and discovered the victims inside an apartment with loud music playing.
In a 911 call, a man speaking with a heavy accent struggled to give the address and to explain that an ambulance was needed.
State crime-scene investigators were called in to help. There were several evidence markers indicating blood drops outside the apartment, with a large area taped off by police.
“I have children, so yes, this is surprising,” Edwin Gonzalez, a resident of the complex, told The Cincinnati Enquirer. He said there are a lot of factory workers who live in the complex and that they can be noisy when they get home at night, so he didn’t hear anything unusual Wednesday night.
